Homeless Arts Project

"We're a part of your society, though we may be, or may have been, without homes of our own. Join us on our World Wide Web journey, and enjoy what we can offer you:

our art
our writing
our talent"

-- contributed by an anonymous formerly homeless Floater

The Homeless Arts Project was originally established for those artists and poets who are or were homeless, for those in transition, for those "floating" from one abode to another.

"You have seen us: if you ride the Red Bus Line in Phoenix on any weekday, or its equivalent in any city, you may overhear scraps of conversation about sleeping on the streets. You may find the bus stopping to pick up people who offer a drawing or a poem to you for fifty cents.

"You know that there are those who, while they cannot exist easily within mainstream society, nevertheless have a talent, large or small, which is or should be worth something."

Since artists and poets of any worth have often been unable to follow their paths comfortably, these pages were opened for publishing to anyone who is attempting, or who has attempted survival on the streets.

Later we rethought this idea: why distinguish between a homeless artist and any other artist? Artwork stands or falls on its own merits. We don't need labels. So the website was opened up to all artists who wish to exhibit here.

If you as an artist or poet would like to exhibit/publish here -- please get in touch. Because these pages will be accessible by children, we ask that your materials submitted be appropriate. There is no fee for exhibit space. You will retain the original artwork and any subsequent publishing rights. You are asked to contribute to Floaters.org twenty percent of the profit on any artwork sold through Floaters.org. Note that you are asked to contribute twenty percent of the profit, not twenty percent of the entire price. The profit would be what remains after you subtract your own costs.

If you wish to purchase original artwork from the individual artists, send email to Floaters. For more information, look at our financial policies. You may also order high-quality, inexpensive reproductions.

Send email to floaters@asu.edu. The group would love to hear from you.
