Messages of the day Floaters.org is a technology integration program designed to bridge the Digital Divide. We lend out older computers and software and provide peer mentoring to qualified families. Floaters.org is based on grassroots networking and participatory action research; all participants are co-researchers, and each participant has an equal voice. The program sponsors an online gallery that offers free exhibit space to artists; artists are asked to donate a portion of the profit to Floaters. Members are also available for web development projects, with 20% of the fee paid to Floaters.org. The Floaters Organization built a Community Technology Center for the Casa de Amor Mission in Mesa, Arizona. Our first Community Technology Center was located at the Gentle Strength Coop in Tempe, Arizona and is now in the process of moving to Mesa. We are affiliated as well with a CTC in Puerto Penasco, Mexico.A Floaters.org representative presented results from a two year study of participatory action research in technology outreach at AERA (American Educational Research Association) in San Diego on April 13, 2004.
"Whether it is under the guise of survival and self-defence or
directly expressed through dominion and greed, the failure to recognize
the common humanity shared by us all lies at the heart of our
difficulties."
